Team outreach
here's what we do
As a team, we believe that our community presence is equally as important as building robots for competitions. Through outreach events, we spread STEM values and education to many different audiences, and connect with others. These events benefit our team members directly as well, as they are able to earn volunteer hours by participating. One of our biggest goals is to give back to our community, which has provided us a tremendous amount of support throughout the team’s history.
Discovery Days
Discovery Day, hosted by the Bay Area Science Fair, is another annual outreach event that we attend. Our team, along with a few others from the area, takes our most recent robot down to AT&T park to demonstrate its functions and talk about the engineering process. There are many families at this event, particularly ones with younger children, so we are looking into implementing other small activities into our exhibit along with the competition robot.
FLL Qualifier
In the fall, our team hosts an FLL event for teams in our area. FLL is another branch of FIRST Robotics, created for students aged 9-14, in which they build small-scale robots out of LEGOs to perform a certain task. This is another great volunteering opportunity as there are plenty of roles to be filled, and our members love working with younger people who have the same interests.
