Subteams

Electrical Team

The electrical sub-team is responsible for the wiring and power management of the robot. The electrical sub-team crimps wires, makes electrical boards/diagrams, solders, and works with sensors (both custom made and prefabricated). It is also in charge of the team’s 3D printer. Members get a brief and introductory experience in the field of Electrical Engineering.

Mechanical Team

The mechanical team designs, builds, and assembles the robot. Mechanical members learn how to use shop machinery. The CAD team, responsible for the computer aided design of the robot, is a subsection of the mechanical team. CAD members learn to use SoildWorks 3D design software, preparing them for mechanical engineering careers in industry.

Business/Media Team

The business subteam’s main focus is maintaining the team’s finances and maintaining connections with sponsors. Members are in charge of writing grants, contacting companies, and creating a business plan. They also work closely with the outreach and media to organize fundraising events.

The media subteam works on public relations and advertising of events. They run social media accounts and the team website. Members have the opportunity to get hands on marketing experience. They are also in charge of photographing the robot building process.

Programming Team

The programming subteam is responsible for the software that controls the robot. This includes the general control system of the robot, autonomous routines and computer vision systems. They accomplish this through object-oriented programming in Java, driver input through a joystick, and data from sensors, such as gyros, limit switches, and ultrasonic distance sensors. The computer vision systems are programmed through OpenCV in Python.
